Our Philosophy
Medicine is the art of compassion and mercy. In this spirit, the Center for Metabolic Wellness provides complementary and alternative medicine for patients as they recover and maintain their health. Balance. We believe that Eastern and Western medicine can work together. The Center was founded and is directed by Sheila George, M.D., C.A., a family medicine practitioner. Her expertise and experience in acupuncture, Oriental Medicine and nutritional therapy helps patients find what works for them when Western Medicine may not be enough. We advise you to continue medical care with your primary care physician while receiving care at the Center. Where appropriate and possible, we will work with other health care practitioners to provide the best possible benefit for you. Individual. The Center was created for patients who need complementary and alternative therapies either to effect change or make current therapies more effective. We recognize that each patient will respond uniquely to any treatment, and that the doctor treats the whole person, regardless of where the complaint is located. Choice. Ultimately, healing is an art of personal choice and active participation. Your program could require changes to lifestyle and diet, among other adjustments that might be challenging to you. Your doctor will prescribe a program that provides the most benefit to your healing process. If you have questions regarding any elements of your program, it is important that they be discussed with your doctor, who will work with you to make adjustments if necessary and if possible. | The Quan Yin A Symbol of Compassion ![]() There are many legends of the Quan Yin, who is known in the Far East, especially in China, Korea, Tibet and Japan. According to traditional stories, Quan Yin was an ordinary person who dedicated herself to service and wisdom throughout her many incarnations. The Quan Yin symbolizes the compassion that resides in the heart of every creature. Every patient has the ability to find mercy and therefore healing within themselves. A paraphrase of the Quan Yin sutra states, "when one turns to Quan Yin - to the self within that images the divine self, a raging fire becomes a placid pool; chains that bind ones hands and feet are loosened; beasts flee and snakes lose their poison." It is our inner compassion towards ourselves that ultimately heals us. |
